Secrets of the perfect interview

"Siti-Umairah SCHENKER" siti-umairah.schenker@st.com

Secrets of the perfect interview

For many people, interviews are the scariest part of job hunting. But they shouldn't be! If you know what to expect and are ready for anything, there's nothing to worry about. And with the help of Arabian Woman, you can ace any interview that comes your way. We know all the tricks, from what to wear to what to say - even how to improve your chances of success after the interview is over

It's all in the mind
The first thing you have to do is make sure that you are going in with the right attitude. It may seem natural to be frightened about a job interview, but you just need to change the way you are thinking about it. Many people spend hours thinking about all the things that could go wrong, and then - not surprisingly - they do. Instead of thinking of an interview as a test where your potential employer is trying to trip you up, think of it instead as a chance to show off what you know and what you can do. This is your chance to prove yourself far better than a letter or a CV can ever do; think of it as a game or a performance.

Also, remember that the situation is not just about an employer interviewing you for a position - you are also interviewing them to see if the company is one that you would be happy being part of. If you believe this, you'll project the attitude of someone who has a lot of job offers to choose from, and is not just desperate to take the first offer that comes her way.

Positive thinking gurus such as Anthony Robbins recommend doing a ‘visualisation' before going for an interview. Spend the evening before quietly picturing the interview going well in your head, like a movie. See yourself giving firm handshakes, hear yourself giving intelligent answers and feel yourself being relaxed and confident.

Preparation is vital
Like any test, you should prepare for a job interview ahead of time. Think about what the employer will want to know, and have some good answers ready. Employers want people who are motivated and positive, so make sure that any answer you give reflects these qualities.Although every interview is different, there are stock questions that always come up, and having an answer at your fingertips will make you more confident, and impress the interviewer. Take the time to think about a few scenarios where you have excelled yourself in the past, solved a difficult problem or made a real difference to your company; interviewers will often ask for examples of these and they can be hard to remember on the spur of the moment.

Another popular question is asking your weaknesses or faults; the savvy interviewee will know how to turn these negatives into a positive, admitting a weakness that can also be viewed as a strength. Explaining you have difficulties delegating, pay too much attention to detail or always feel the need to be challenged are good answers. The trick with answering negative questions about previous mistakes or failed jobs is to explain how you learnt from the experience and are now a better worker because of it. Practice one or two with a friend.

Employers are also looking for someone who has the skills that the job entails, rather than having to train someone from scratch. Research the company thoroughly, as “what do you know about us?” is another popular question, and “nothing” is not an acceptable answer. Look on their Website, ask around, read the newspapers. Think about what the company and the position needs, and prepare your skills so that they fit the picture. The job advertisement should also give you some clues as to what they are looking for. Think of an example or a way that you fit every specification that they have mentioned. Remember, the more prepared you are, the more confident you will be.

First impressions count
Know exactly where you are going and the name of who you will be meeting and speaking to when you get there. Although it may seem like common sense to arrive on time, always give yourself a good 15 minutes extra; this is not a day you want to get caught in a traffic jam and arrive flustered. Also, this gives you time to fill out an application form neatly when you arrive, if they have one. Give a firm handshake, look the interviewer in the eye and greet them by name.

It may sound obvious, but an interview is one occasion where you must be on your best behaviour. You never get a chance to make a second impression, and you want to be remembered for all the right reasons. Treat everyone you meet with politeness, from the MD to the office boy. Be on show from the moment you walk into the office; you may think no-one is watching you send gossip on your mobile for half an hour while you are waiting to be seen, but secretaries will often report back to the boss. There is a big list of don'ts; never chew gum or smoke, don't fidget, don't leave your phone on, and don't interrupt. Most importantly, don't be rude about your previous employers or anyone else in the market. Not only will this make you seem like negative rather than positive, but you never know what the interviewer' s relationship to them might be. Your previous boss may be his golf partner.

You will probably be asked why you are looking at moving on from your previous job. Make sure that the answer makes you look like a motivated person who is trying to grow, rather than a difficult one who can't work with others.

Look the part
Research shows that a first impression has been made, based on what you look like, in the first ten seconds of a job interview.

The best advice we've ever heard is to dress as though you already have the job. Know what professionals in that field wear (discounting things like uniforms, of course!) and dress at the same level or above. However, if the office is casual, still dress smart. This is not the time to try out a new fashion trend or be even slightly shocking; a conservative suit fits any occasion. Make sure that it fits well and you are comfortable in it; nothing looks worse than someone who is constantly tugging on ‘ straps, pulling down a shirt, or stumbling on high heels.

Navy, black and grey give the most 'professional' image. Let the colour psychologists guide you for your accessories; red says you are confident and outgoing, yellow that you have a sense of humour, blue that you are intellectual and efficient and green that you can keep your head in a crisis.

Body language is exceptionally important.
Although you and the interviewer may not consciously notice how you are holding yourself, it does have an influence on the interview. Eye contact is a must, as this shows that you are confident, sincere and have nothing to hide. Avoid touching your face or ears, or fiddling; this indicates evasiveness or lying. Crossed arms or legs will make you seem unapproachable. Don't slouch, as this indicated slovenliness, and don't sit too far forward, as you'll appear tense. The trick is to sit upright but relaxed; drop your shoulders slightly and take a breath before starting.

Have an interview strategy
The interviewer is there to ask questions, and you are there to give confident, intelligent answers. No matter what they ask, make sure that your answers do one thing; explain how you are the right person for this position. There are no wrong answers to interview questions; but there are answers that will make you seem more suited for the job than others. One way to make sure that yours do is to verify your answers; when ask about strengths, give examples. Rather than saying “I'm a good salesperson”, say “My ability to sell is shown in the fact that I exceeded my targets by 50 per cent every month last year.” It may feel like showing off, but if you don't tell them, how will they know?

Make sure you ask questions too. Interviews are not a one-way street. Asking your own questions shows that you have thought seriously about the company before coming, and that you want to make sure that they would fit in with you as well as you with them. And remember, you need to find out if you really want this job!

Have at least half a dozen questions prepared that need more than a yes or no answer. Ask about the nature of the work, the opportunities for growth and development and the training given to new staff. Ask how the position you are applying for fits into the company structure, and what it means on a day-to-day basis. Also ask some questions about where the company is going and what its future strategies are, and how it is adapting to industry trends. Knowing what is going on in their industry and asking how they see it always comes across as very impressive to interviewers, so read around first.

Another good question is to ask what they are looking for in the perfect person to fill this job; you can then make sure you let them know that you fit all their criteria before the end of the interview. And remember - questioning the interviewer does not mean asking about wages or benefits! Wait until you have been offered the position to talk about money, and don't be the one to bring it up.

Stay calm, speak slowly and try to let the interview turn into a conversation, rather than a question and answer session. If the dialogue flows naturally then the interviewer will think that they have more in common with you and know you better than they actually do. Therefore, let them direct the conversation but take an active part in it by speaking freely and not giving one-word answers. You should never be over-friendly, but take the lead from the interviewer as to the tone of the discussion. If they are friendly and open, make yourself personable; if they are formal and reserved, be as businesslike yourself. Don't ramble and don't interrupt; if you feel you are going on too much, pause, collect your thoughts and summarise what you want to say. Research shows that successful job interviewees spend 50 per cent of the time listening, rather than doing all the talking.

Leave on the right note
Always express your interest in the job just before leaving. This doesn't mean saying anything desperate or false; just let them know that you are impressed with what you have seen so far, and that you look forward to hearing from them. Find out what the next step is; will they contact you or will you send them examples of your work? And then thank them for their time. You want to leave them with no doubt in their minds that you are the right person for the job.

The day after the interview, send a brief but polite letter or email saying how much you enjoyed meeting the interviewer, how interesting the discussion was, and how much you look forward to hearing from them. Keep it short and undemanding; selling yourself all over again will make you look desperate. Just say that you are very interested in the position, and thank them again for their time. Not only is it polite, but it puts you back in their mind in a positive way.

After it's all over, take time to think about the interview and write down what you think went wrong, and what you think came across well. Even if you don't get this job, you can only get better and better with each interview!

Practice makes perfect
Although you can never prepare for every eventuality in an interview, here are some of the common questions that come up:

  • Why did you apply for this job?
  • Why do you want to work for this company?
  • Why should I hire you?
  • What would you do if this happened?
  • What is your biggest strength?
  • What is your biggest weakness?
  • What was your worst mistake, and how did you learn from it?
  • What accomplishments in your last position are you most proud of?
  • Describe a challenge you faced and how you overcame it?
  • Why did you leave/ are you leaving your last job?
  • What do you want from this job?
  • What are your career goals and how do you plan to achieve them?

Surprising Uses for Salt

From: MOHAMED JOHARI BIN MOHAMED SIDEK
Date: Friday, February 22, 2008, 7:38 AM

____________ _________ _________ __

Mankind has been using salt for many centuries, in the course of which
we've amassed many uses (some speculate thousands) for this amazing
substance -- uses that go far beyond mere seasoning. Here are a few of the more
practical ones:

* Pick up a dropped egg. If an egg breaks on the kitchen floor, sprinkle salt
on the mess and leave it there for 20 minutes.
You'll be able to wipe it
right up.

* Soothe a bee sting. Wet the sting right away, then cover it with salt.

* Eliminate a grease fire. Pour salt on top to smother it. (Never use water on
a grease fire.)

* Clean up oven spills. If food boils over onto the oven floor, sprinkle salt
on top to stop smoke and odor from forming. When the oven is cool, it'll be
easy to brush away the spot.

* Set color. If a dye may run, soak the garment for an hour in 1/2 gallon of
water to which you've added 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/2 cup salt. If rinse
water shows color, repeat. This is good for a single-colored fabric or madras.
If the item is multicolored, dry-clean it. (Although American-made fabrics are
unlikely to run, fabrics from abroad are sometimes iffy.)

* Kill poison ivy. Add three pounds of salt to a gallon of soapy water. Spray
it onto leaves and stems.

* Make cream whip more easily and egg
whites whip faster and higher. Add a
pinch of salt.

* Test for rotten eggs. Put an egg in a cup of water to which you've added
two teaspoons of salt. A fresh egg will sink, but one that's iffy will
float.

* Clean the brown spots (from starch) off a non-stick soleplate (the bottom of
your iron). Sprinkle salt on a sheet of waxed paper, slide the iron across it,
then rub lightly with silver polish.

* Repel fleas. Wash the doghouse with it.

* Kill grass growing in cracks in the cement or between patio stones. Sprinkle
salt on the grass and pour very hot water over it. Or sprinkle coarse salt on
the grass, let stand all day or overnight, then pour hot tap water over it.

* Clean a glass coffee pot. Fill it with a quarter-cup of table salt and a
dozen ice cubes. Swish the mixture around, let it sit for half an hour, fill it
with cold water and rinse.

* Halt the mountain of suds from an
overflowing washing machine. Sprinkle salt
on the top.

* Clean artificial flowers. Put them in a bag of salt and shake the bag. Take a
look at the color of the salt and you'll see what you've accomplished.

* Keep windows frost-free. Dip a sponge into salt water and rub it on windows,
and they won't frost up even when the mercury dips below 32 degrees; for
the same effect on your car's windshield, put salt in a little bag made of
cheesecloth, moisten it slightly and rub it on.

* Clean tarnished copper.Fill a 16-ounce spray bottle with hot white vinegar
and three tablespoons of salt. Spray it onto the copper, let it sit briefly,
then rub clean. (Don't do this to lacquered copper.)

* Keep radishes safe in the garden. Salt worms (cutworms) will be repelled if
you sprinkle seeds with table salt, then cover with dirt.

* Clean coffee and tea stains from china cups. Rub them with salt.

*
Keep potatoes and apples from turning brown once they're sliced. Put them
in salted cold water.

* Clean a cutting board. Cover it with bleach and salt, scrub it with a stiff
brush, then rinse with very hot water and wipe with a clean cloth. Repeat with
each

20 Perkara Yang Membuatkan Wanita Membenci Lelaki

"Zakiah Bt. Abd Rahman" zakiah@lcthcorp.com

20 Perkara Yang Membuatkan Wanita Membenci Lelaki

2. MAIN KAYU TIGA

Bab main kayu tiga ni masalah paling besar. Apatah lagi kalau digoda, terus disambar tanpa mempedulikan perasaan kekasihnya.

3. SUKA ‘CUCI MATA’

Kebanyakan lelaki sukar mengawal mata (mata keranjang).

Jika berkaitan teman wanita, alamatnya… mereka kurang mengambil perhatian. Mengapa ya? Kaum wanita sebenarnya bukan minta diberikan perhatian 24 jam tetapi cukuplah sekadar pasangannya mengambil tahu akan dirinya kerana sifat semulajadi seseorang wanita itu yang ingin bermanja dan dimanjakan.

10. CEMBURU BUTA

Orang kata cemburu tandanya sayang, tapi kalau cemburu tak tentu pasal dan memanjang saja cemburu, tentu rasa tak selesa juga. Agaknya lelaki yang kuat cemburu ni takut kekasihnya terlepas ke tangan kumbang lain kot. Harus diingat, bukan semua perempuan suka kekasihnya kuat cemburu. Tapi, ada juga sesetengahnya suka apabila teman lelakinya cemburu kerana seolah-olah teman lelakinya amat menghargai dirinya. Jangan cemburu buta sudahlah, malas jugak nak layan kadang-kadang!

11. MATA DUITAN

16. GELOJOH

Kalau bab makan, lelaki ni agak gelojoh. Macam ‘food machine’. Mereka lemas melihat teman wanita mereka makan terlalu sopan tetapi mereka tidak sedar cara mereka makan yang gelojoh juga melemaskan kaum wanita. Sepatutnya, samada lelaki mahupun wanita patutlah makan dengan bersopan. Buat apa terkejar-kejar?

17. PENTINGKAN KAWAN-KAWAN

Sanggup membatalkan temujanji semata-mata hendak bermain bola sepak ataupun menonton WWF bersama kawan-kawan. Sekali-sekala bolahlah, jangan pula selalu saja memberi alasan hinggakan masa bersama teman wanita tiada langsung semata-mata untuk menghabiskan masa bersama kawan-kawan. Apa guna bercinta kalau macam tu gayanya?

19. PUTAR BELIT

Kalau anda tak pandai menyelamatkan keadaan, melepaslah anda! Jujurlah pada pasangan anda.

20. SUKA KONTROL MACHO

Peh!

AIRASIA FOUNDER LIKES WORKERS TO SPEAK UP

"Muhammad Sabri Bin Muhammad Salleh"

From: Zulkifli Ruba'i
Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2008 5:23 PM
Subject: RE: Vacancy for Internal Audit Manager

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ON TONY FERNANDES OF AIRASIA

AIRASIA FOUNDER LIKES WORKERS TO SPEAK UP

(From THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ASIA )

Malaysian Tony Fernandes founded AirAsia, Asia 's first low-cost carrier, in 2001 and expanded the company by setting up joint-venture airlines in
Thailand and Indonesia . Mr. Fernandes, 42 years old, graduated from the University of London in 1987 with a finance degree and in 1992 moved back to Malaysia, where he became managing director of Warner Music Malaysia, and later, vice-president of Warner's Southeast Asian operations. He quit in 2001 to start AirAsia.

One of Malaysia 's most outspoken business executives, Mr. Fernandes not only has strong ideas on the way airlines should be run, but also how Southeast Asia 's top-down corporate culture should change. He spoke to reporter Cris Prystay about his style.

WSJ: What was your first job and what did you learn from it?

Mr. Fernandes:
My first job was a waiter in London at the Cavendish Hotel. I was 17. I learned that working was hard and you had to be professional, even as a waiter. You had other colleagues. If my performance was poor, it let down the whole team. My first [career] job was as an accountant at an auditor in London . It was mind-blowingly boring. I was a junior auditor and was photocopying and adding up rows of columns. The big lesson there: make sure you go into a job that you enjoy. Otherwise, you don't give any value to your employer, and you certainly don't add any value to your own mind.

WSJ: Who gave you the best business advice?

Mr. Fernandes:
It was probably Stephen Shrimpton (the former chief executive officer of Warner Music International) at Warner. I was a man in a rush. I was 28 when I became the managing director of Warner Music Malaysia , and I wanted to be the regional MD. I wanted to take over the world. One night, Steve talked to me outside the Sheraton Hotel in Hong Kong for three hours. He told me there's no need to rush and that it's about developing my own personality and making sure I'm ready for the next job. I see that now: No matter how bright someone is at 25, there's nothing like experience. He slowed me down, and made me understand that you need to take time to understand the business better, to understand your people better.

WSJ: What's the one thing you wish every new hire knew?

Mr. Fernandes:
Humility -- and knowing what the real world is like. The new generation is coming in pretty soft. A lot of these young guys haven't lived through a recession. There are plenty of jobs out there and they think, "I can always walk into another job." The hunger and determination to do their best is sometimes not there.

WSJ: Is there a difference between the management culture in Asia and the West?

Mr. Fernandes: The management culture here is very top-down. There's less creativity and fewer people who are willing to speak out. They're more implementers than doers. There's less freedom of speech, and that impacts the business world. Even when they know things are not right, they won't speak out. They just do what they're told to do.

WSJ: What's the biggest management challenge you face?

Mr. Fernandes: To get people to think. At AirAsia, we want 4,000 brains working for us. My biggest challenge is to get people to talk, to express themselves, to get people to challenge me and say "Tony, you're talking rubbish.

" That's what I want, not people who say "Yes, sir." The senior management doesn't have all the answers. I want the guy on the ramp to have the confidence to tell me what's wrong.

WSJ: What are you doing to clear that hurdle?

Mr. Fernandes: We have no offices. We dress down. You wear a suit, and you put distance between you and your staff. We're on a first-name basis. I go around the office, around the check-in desks, the planes constantly, talking to people. Fifty percent of my job is managing people in the company. You get people to open up to you by just asking them to do it, and then responding to them. You don't send a memo, or do some "speak up" incentive program. It's got to be from the heart.

WSJ: What was the most satisfying decision you've made as a manager?

Mr. Fernandes:
Once a month, I carry bags with the ramp boys, or I'm cabin crew, or at the check-in. I do this to get close to the operation. I also want to know my people. When I first started this, I met all these bright kids at the check-in or carrying bags. We were starting this cadet pilot program, and I said, "Let's open it up to anyone. Let some of these kids apply." They have the brains, but they just didn't have the money to get the education. Out of the first batch of 19 cadets, 11 came from within the company. Some of these boys got the highest marks ever in the flying academy. There was one kid who joined us to carry bags, and 18 months later he was a First Officer of a 737. Can you imagine what that does for the motivation in the company? Everyone talks about developing human capital, but we did it.

A World Without Islam

What if Islam had never existed? To some, it's a comforting thought: No clash of civilizations, no holy wars, no terrorists. Would Christianity have taken over the world? Would the Middle East be a peaceful beacon of democracy? Would 9/11 have happened? In fact, remove Islam from the path of history, and the world ends up pretty much where it is today.

A World Without Islam Pt 2

10 02 2008

Muhammad SAW

UNDER THE PROPHET’S BANNER

It is, of course, absurd to argue that the existence of Islam has had no independent impact on the Middle East or East-West relations. Islam has provided a unifying force of a high order across a wide region. As a global universal faith, it has created a broad civilization that shares many common principles of philosophy, the arts, and society; a vision of the moral life; a sense of justice, jurisprudence, and good governance–all in a deeply rooted high culture. As a cultural and moral force, Islam has helped bridge ethnic differences among diverse Muslim peoples, encouraging them to feel part of a broader Muslim civilizational project. That alone furnishes it with great weight. Islam affected political geography as well: If there had been no Islam, the Muslim countries of South Asia and Southeast Asia today–particularly Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Indonesia–would be rooted instead in the Hindu world.

Islamic civilization provided a common ideal to which all Muslims could appeal in the name of resistance against Western encroachment. Even if that appeal failed to stem the Western imperial tide, it created a cultural memory of a commonly shared fate that did not go away. Europeans were able to divide and conquer numerous African, Asian, and Latin American peoples who then fell singly before Western power. A united, transnational resistance among those peoples was hard to achieve in the absence of any common ethnic or cultural symbol of resistance.

In a world without Islam, Western imperialism would have found the task of dividing, conquering, and dominating the Middle East and Asia much easier. There would not have remained a shared cultural memory of humiliation and defeat across a vast area. That is a key reason why the United States now finds itself breaking its teeth upon the Muslim world. Today, global intercommunications and shared satellite images have created a strong self-consciousness among Muslims and a sense of a broader Western imperial siege against a common Islamic culture. This siege is not about modernity; it is about the unceasing Western quest for domination of the strategic space, resources, and even culture of the Muslim world–the drive to create a “pro-American” Middle East. Unfortunately, the United States naïvely assumes that Islam is all that stands between it and the prize.

But what of terrorism–the most urgent issue the West most immediately associates with Islam today? In the bluntest of terms, would there have been a 9/11 without Islam? If the grievances of the Middle East, rooted in years of political and emotional anger at U.S. policies and actions, had been wrapped up in a different banner, would things have been vastly different? Again, it’s important to remember how easily religion can be invoked even when other long-standing grievances are to blame. Sept. 11, 2001, was not the beginning of history. To the al Qaeda hijackers, Islam functioned as a magnifying glass in the sun, collecting these widespread shared common grievances and focusing them into an intense ray, a moment of clarity of action against the foreign invader.

In the West’s focus on terrorism in the name of Islam, memories are short. Jewish guerrillas used terrorism against the British in Palestine. Sri Lankan Hindu Tamil “Tigers” invented the art of the suicide vest and for more than a decade led the world in the use of suicide bombings–including the assassination of Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Greek terrorists carried out assassination operations against U.S. officials in Athens. Organized Sikh terrorism killed India Gandhi, spread havoc in India, established an overseas base in Canada, and brought down an Air India flight over the Atlantic. Macedonian terrorists were widely feared all across the Balkans on the eve of World War I. Dozens of major assassinations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries were carried out by European and American “anarchists,” sowing collective fear. The Irish Republican Army employed brutally effective terrorism against the British for decades, as did communist guerrillas and terrorists in Vietnam against Americans, communist Malayans against British soldiers in the 1950s, Mau-Mau terrorists against British officers in Kenya–the list goes on. It doesn’t take a Muslim to commit terrorism.

Even the recent history of terrorist activity doesn’t look much different. According to Europol, 498 terrorist attacks took place in the European Union in 2006. Of these, 424 were perpetrated by separatist groups, 55 by left-wing extremists, and 18 by various other terrorists. Only 1 was carried out by Islamists. To be sure, there were a number of foiled attempts in a highly surveilled Muslim community. But these figures reveal the broad ideological range of potential terrorists in the world.

Imperialism

Is it so hard to imagine then, Arabs–Christian or Muslim–angered at Israel or imperialism’s constant invasions, overthrows, and interventions employing similar acts of terrorism and guerrilla warfare? The question might be instead, why didn’t it happen sooner? As radical groups articulate grievances in our globalize age, why should we not expect them to carry their struggle into the heart of the West?

If Islam hates modernity, why did it wait until 9/11 to launch its assault? And why did key Islamic thinkers in the early 20th century speak of the need to embrace modernity even while protecting Islamic culture? Osama bin Laden’s cause in his early days was not modernity at all–he talked of Palestine, American boots on the ground in Saudi Arabia, Saudi rulers under U.S. control, and modern “Crusaders.” It is striking that it was not until as late as 2001 that we saw the first major boiling over of Muslim anger onto U.S. soil itself, in reaction to historical as well as accumulated recent events and U.S. policies. If not 9/11, some similar event like it was destined to come.

And even if Islam as a vehicle of resistance had never existed, Marxism did. It is an ideology that has spawned countless terrorist, guerrilla, and national liberation movements. It has informed the Basque ETA, the FARC in Colombia, the Shining Path in Peru, and the Red Army Faction in Europe, to name only a few in the West. George Habash, the founder of the deadly Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, was a Greek Orthodox Christian and Marxist who studied at the American University of Beirut. In an era when angry Arab nationalism flirted with violent Marxism, many Christian Palestinians lent Habash their support.

Peoples who resist foreign oppressors seek banners to propagate and glorify the cause of their struggle. The international class struggle for justice provides a good rallying point. Nationalism is even better. But religion provides the best one of all, appealing to the highest powers in prosecuting its cause. And religion everywhere can still serve to bolster ethnicity and nationalism even as it transcends it-especially when the enemy is of a different religion. In such cases, religion ceases to be primarily the source of clash and confrontation, but rather its vehicle. The banner of the moment may go away, but the grievances remain.

We live in an era when terrorism is often the chosen instrument of the weak. It already stymies the unprecedented might of U.S. armies in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. And thus bin Laden in many non-Muslim societies has been called the “next Che Guevara.” It’s nothing less than the appeal of successful resistance against dominant American power, the weak striking back an appeal that transcends Islam or Middle Eastern culture.

MORE OF THE SAME

Islam

But the question remains, if Islam didn’t exist, would the world be more peaceful? In the face of these tensions between East and West, Islam unquestionably adds yet one more emotive element, one more layer of complications to finding solutions. Islam is not the cause of such problems. It may seem sophisticated to seek out passages in the Koran that seem to explain “why they hate us.” But that blindly misses the nature of the phenomenon. How comfortable to identify Islam as the source of “the problem”; it’s certainly much easier than exploring the impact of the massive global footprint of the world’s sole superpower.

A world without Islam would still see most of the enduring bloody rivalries whose wars and tribulations dominate the geopolitical landscape. If it were not religion, all of these groups would have found some other banner under which to express nationalism and a quest for independence. Sure, history would not have followed the exact same path as it has. But, at rock bottom, conflict between East and West remains all about the grand historical and geopolitical issues of human history: ethnicity, nationalism, ambition, greed, resources, local leaders, turf, financial gain, power, interventions, and hatred of outsiders, invaders, and imperialists. Faced with timeless issues like these, how could the power of religion not be invoked?

Remember too, that virtually every one of the principle horrors of the 20th century came almost exclusively from strictly secular regimes: Leopold II of Belgium in the Congo, Hitler, Mussolini, Lenin and Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot. It was Europeans who visited their “world wars” twice upon the rest of the world-two devastating global conflicts with no remote parallels in Islamic history.

Some today might wish for a “world without Islam” in which these problems presumably had never come to be. But, in truth, the conflicts, rivalries, and crises of such a world might not look so vastly different than the ones we know today.

Temuduga Kerja : Apa Kunci Kejayaannya ?

Oleh

Zaharuddin Abd Rahman

http://www.zaharudd in.net/

4) Mengapa kerap menukar kerja?

  • 2) Cara penyampaian jawapan termasuk cara pandangan mata, cara tangan semasa bercakap
  • 3) Tahap keyakinan semasa menjawab soalan.
  • 4) Tahap kedinamikan calon semasa menjawab.

Antaranya :-

a- Tidak yakin dengan jawapan.

d- Tidak Relaks & Kelihatan Tertekan.

Jika calon punyai pengalaman 2 tahun, jangan pula letak gaji dipohon sebanyak RM 6000.

4) Jenis Jawatan : Ia amat banyak mempengaruhi gaji jangkaan.

Jawapan perlu disediakan dari awal. Elok juga disebutkan kepada panel bahawa ia terbuka untuk perbincangan. Tatkala itu, panel akan bertanya lagi;

Demikian sebaliknya.

Soalan Penutup

Biasanya, soalan penutup panel temuduga adalah:

"Do you have any question?" atau " Saudara/i ada apa-apa soalan?"

Nabi Muhammad s.a.w bersabda :-

Ertinya : Sesungguhnya Allah s.w.t menyukai seseorang kamu apabila ia melakukan sesuatu kerja, ia sentiasa memperkemas dan menekuninya" (Riwayat At-Tabrani, terdapat komentar terhadap seorang perawinya iaitu Mus'ab bin Thabit, Ibn Hibban men thiqahi'nya , dan majority melemahkannya)

Menurut sebuah hadis sohih pula :-

Moga Allah bersama kita sentiasa.
